Read “roll of thunder” when I was in high school, loved that book, made me cry! I never realised she had written that many books, never really looked into up until now, inshallah will try and get hold of a few mores books by Mildred.
wa `alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh!
I know what you mean… it made me cry too! As someone who grew up as a minority (though not with the backdrop of slavery and prejudice of such cruel degree), I identify so much with African-American history.
I don’t know if the character of Jeremy Simms (the sympathetic White boy who wanted to live in the tree) interested you – Mississippi Bridge is his story (albeit a short one).
